A THREE-DAY futsal coaching course is set to be held from November 7 to 9 at the Ba Academy Grounds, an initiative by the Fiji Football Association designed to strengthen the skills of district and school-level futsal coaches.
Fiji FA coach educator Yogendra Dutt will lead the initiative with the assistance of national futsal head coach José Gerardo who will conduct most of the sessions.
The course will focus more on the practical aspects of the game such as defensive and attacking strategies, set plays, goalkeeper training, and school-level coaching techniques with a final hands-on assessment at the conclusion of the course.
Coach Gerardo highlighted the significance of the course in building a solid future for Fijian futsal.
“I have a three-year plan to develop a winning futsal team for Fiji, Programs like this are essential because when coaches improve, players improve, and the entire system benefits”, he said.
With over 35 years of experience coaching internationally, Gerardo praised the progress made in Fiji’s futsal scene.
“The standard here is rising steadily. Teams are becoming more organized and technically skilled. I’ve spotted many talented young players who have the potential to represent the national team in the future.”
Gerardo also commended the Fiji FA’s efforts to professionalise the sport.
The Fiji FA is encouraging all district and school futsal coaches to attend the program to strengthen their technical understanding and practical coaching ability.
