A YOUNG Nausori couple has appeared in the High Court in Suva for allegedly sexually violating and trafficking their under-age niece.
The man is charged with two counts of rape, while both he and his wife are charged with domestic trafficking in children. The charges are sanctioned by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
According to the prosecution, the couple took their 14-year-old niece to a hotel room in Nausori where the woman groomed her before the man violated her on two separate occasions.
Both accused entered a not-guilty plea when they appeared in court earlier this month.
During proceedings on December 11, State prosecutor Zenith Zunaid said he had successfully compiled and furnished additional disclosures consisting of the transcript of the couple’s video-recorded interview.
Justice Dane Tuiqereqere extended the couple’s bail and adjourned the case to January 22 next year.
