A couple accused of extorting over $1,800 from a victim by threatening to release an explicit video will face the Suva Magistrates Court today.
Their arrest follows a report lodged with the Online Safety Commission on June 30, 2025.
The victim alleged that the couple demanded money to cover their rent, threatening to publish an explicit video they had obtained of him.
The couple reportedly promised to delete the video upon receiving payment.
However, after the victim sent the money, they allegedly continued to demand more, extracting a total of $1,841 through mobile money transactions and cash delivered in person.
The Online Safety Commission’s Abuse team, in collaboration with their Police Liaison Officer, tracked down the couple, who were subsequently handed over to Totogo Police for investigation.
Fiji Police states the couple now faces three charges each: one count of Trafficking Obscene Publication, one count of Posting an Intimate Visual Recording and one count of Computer-Related Extortion and Fraud.
