With the release of the Fiji Eighth Year Examination results yesterday, a counselling and social services organisation says while it is aware some students performed well than others, it implored parents and guardians to accept their children’s results in a positive way.

Empower Pacific CEO Patrick Morgam said parents and guardians could create a safe and enabling environment where a child was able to have an open conversation about his or her feelings and emotions.

“It is vital that these students learn how to deal with the disappointment of not getting the result they had desired. Learning to deal with such disappointment is possible with the support of their parents, guardians, and family members, Mr Morgam said in a statement.

He said not achieving the desired result could trigger negative feelings and low self-esteem.

But added that “with the right support, these emotions can be managed positively”.

A total of 19,084 students sat for the FEYE last year.

The Ministry of Education yesterday confirmed a 67 per cent pass rate, compared to 62 per cent in 2022.
