The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has warned that corruption continues to erode public trust and weaken essential services, as Fiji joins the global community in marking International Anti-Corruption Day today.
Highlighting this year’s theme, “Corruption Prevention Is Everyone’s Duty,” FICAC said the observance is a crucial reminder of the real-world consequences of corruption on people’s lives.
“Corruption weakens service delivery, misuses public resources, creates unfair advantages, and damages confidence in public institutions,” the Commission said in a statement.
“When corruption remains unaddressed, ordinary citizens suffer, particularly those who rely most on essential public services.”
Established by the United Nations following the adoption of the UN Convention against Corruption, the day aims to raise awareness, strengthen accountability systems, and promote integrity across society.
“This year’s observance is not ceremonial — it is targeted, meaningful, and focused on our core mandate,” FICAC said.
“It reflects our commitment to empowering the people of Fiji and ensuring corruption prevention remains a national responsibility.”
FICAC encouraged all Fijians to uphold honesty, transparency and accountability.
“Together, we can prevent corruption and build a better Fiji,” the statement said.
