As Fiji braces for emerging criminal challenges, Acting Commissioner of Corrections Sevuloni Naucukidi has warned officers that “dark days” lie ahead and the only way forward is a return to discipline, accountability and compassion.

Speaking at the monthly parade in Naboro today, Mr Naucukidi delivered a stirring address urging officers to take ownership of their roles and revive best practices that align with proper procedures and protocols.

“We are entering some very dark days in our society, and these elements will all end up on our doorsteps,” he said.

“We must be ready to deal with these new changes in our criminal landscape and be ready to do what the Government has mandated us to do.”

Mr Naucukidi announced a decentralisation of authority, saying command has been restored to supervisors, Officers in Charge, and Heads of Departments.

“This is not a new structure, but merely putting back in place how things should be.”

“But with this also comes accountability, not just being seen reporting to work daily, but doing what is required in line with procedures and policies, reporting, and making decisions at your level.”

“If you care about your family, if you care about your work, if you care about your superiors, then you will put in the required effort. These things are all connected.”
