In a bid to strengthen Fiji’s potential in hosting a leg of the HSBC World SVNS Series, the Fiji Sports Council intends to do some major work at the HFC Bank Stadium corporate box.

This was revealed by FSC chief executive officer, Gilbert Vakalalabure who said their plan is to expand the seating capacity of the national stadium at Fiji’s capital.

“We need to seat about 22,000 to 25,000 people,” he said.

“At the moment we can seat 15,000 people in capacity, so we need to raise it by another 10,000 out of the corporate box. It will be a three-to-four-storey corporate box.”

This ambitious project is targeted to be completed by 2026.

“It’s a one-year plan, we will build it this year and finish up next year.

“It will be one of the biggest corporate boxes in the Pacific and we will want to try to fulfil the request that Fiji must host a leg of the series,” Vakalalabure added.

He projected more games being hosted in Fiji if they are able to complete this project.

“We are going to market the corporate box to companies, businesses and once that happens, we should be able to bring games into the country. We will be liaising with the respective national sporting organisations,” he said.

Meanwhile, the FSC has signed a three-year partnership with Pacific Energy to enhance sports development across the country.
