THE Coronation Park development project in Lautoka is still in its initial stages, says Lautoka City Council chair of special administrator Taitusi Rasoki.
He made the comment yesterday when asked for an update on the development announced last month.
The council had announced a significant public-private partnership to develop a prime piece of city land, a move that would require the rezoning of a currently protected park space. The proposal is set to transform a section of Tavewa Avenue.
Funded by LCC, the proposed project at Coronation Park, which borders the Coronation Church compound, is earmarked for major development to boost the town’s economy.
A public consultation was held at the council’s chambers on October 23, at which many residents opposed the idea of developing the park because of its historic significance.
