TAVEUNI Grassroots under-20 team captain Ratu Nacani Virivirisai has been hailed as a star in the making by former national sevens player and team head coach, the renowned Sireli Bobo.
Originally from Daviqele, Nabukelevu, Kadavu, with maternal roots in Yavulo, Sigatoka Nadroga, 19-year-old Virivirisai has already earned provincial rugby recognition as the current playmaker for the Nadroga U20 team.
Having been part of the Grassroots development programme for the past ten months, Bobo believes that Virivirisai and a few other players have demonstrated exceptional rugby talent that could see them called up to the national team in the future.
“Virivirisai is a gifted playmaker. We are fortunate that he is only 19 years old and eligible to compete in the Coral Coast Sevens,” Bobo said.
“He, along with two other players in the squad, have shown great potential and I believe that with the right programmes and mentorship, they are destined to don the white jersey.”
As anticipation builds ahead of the Coral Coast Sevens, Virivirisai expressed confidence in his team’s preparation despite their limited time in camp.
“We have trained very hard over the past two weeks. There are still a few things to perfect before the competition, but we are confident in what we have achieved so far and what we can accomplish,” he explained.
“We are a very young team, but we are confident and looking forward to the competition.”
