FORMER Fiji Sevens representative Sireli Bobo has urged players to step up ahead of the second leg of the HSBC SVNS series.

Renowned for his blistering speed, powerful runs, and dazzling footwork, Bobo was a household name in the early 2000s for the Fiji team at the HSBC Sevens series.

Now a coach for the Fiji Sports Grassroots Development Programme, Bobo has expressed his strong support for Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s Sevens team head coach Osea Kolinisau.

“I think Kolinisau has done a really good job with the national sevens team. The onus is now on the players to step up and put Kolinisau’s plan into action,” he said.

Bobo believes no team goes into the HSBC series expecting to lose; the coaches have done all they can in preparing the team, but it is ultimately the players who determine the results on the field.

“The coach has done everything he can. He knows what needs to be done after the first series and they are already working on it, but it’s up to the players to implement what Kolinisau has planned during training,” Bobo explained.

As the second leg approaches, Bobo believes defence will be the main focus for Fiji when competition resumes.

“Defence is something the team really needs to work on, and I know Oscar has already planned for that. But the responsibility now lies with the players,” he said.

“Kolinisau won’t be out there making the tackles, the boys need to put his plan into action and trust his strategy.”

The tournament begins tomorrow at Sigatoka’s Lawaqa Park.
