Defending champions for the McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast Sevens, Police is ready to defend their title.

Coach Sale Tubuna said coming back from a hectic operation season, the Police team had marched into camp to prepare for the three-day tournament.

Police who is in a tough pool with Wardens, McDonald Saunaka and Yamacia in Pool A is working hard to get into shape.

“Training started last week, and we had retained the same players who played in the Mataso, Wairiki and Uluinakau 7s to continue and also the inclusion of Terio Tamani,” Tubuna said.

Former 7s players Livai Ikanikoda, Apenisa Cakaubalavu, Suliano Volivoli have also joined the team.

“We have the full set of players and I am not sure about our players in the national team because the names are yet to be announced.

“If their names are dropped from the national team, then they will join us.

“But we believe in our players. Whoever is present here with us, we know they will deliver.

“I know it’s a big tournament.”

Tubuna said their focus was to look at themselves and not underestimate any team.

“During our training, we’ve been looking at where we are now compared to our win last year at the Uluinakau 7s.

“We had dedicated that win to all our men and women serving in the police and this tournament is very important to us to dedicate it to the job that has been done and to those who are still out there working.

“We want to kick off on a high note come next week. I’ve told the boys that we’ve been through this despite the pressure. We can still do it.”

The 11th annual McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast Sevens kicks off on January 12, 2023, at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

It will feature 16 men’s teams, 12 women’s teams and 16 youth teams.
