THE consumption of kava by civil servants in government offices must be regulated by supervisors, says Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

“That should be regulated and should be under the supervision of their superiors in the end,” Mr Rabuka said.

When asked if a policy would be enforced regarding this, Mr Rabuka said “No, I don’t think so”.

“I think good judgement should be exercised in the workplace.”

Mr Rabuka did emphasise, however, staff were permitted to drink kava in moderation at working events out of the office, particularly in government engagements within villages. “This is during working hours. We can’t just leave the people there and then go,” he added.
