Much of the 2013 Constitution has not been tested, says Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo.

He made the statement yesterday in response to the Cabinet reshuffle undermining the Constitution.

“A litigious society is a very healthy democracy,” he said. “There are legal opinions and, of course, that constitutional provision has not been tested.

“So, if people are not happy with how things have turned out, the courts and the doors of the courts should be opened for those issues to be litigated.

“When that does happen, it shows that democracy has flourished. And I think that is an aspect of national development that we have not probably seen reign in the past government. That’s the thing that this government wants to encourage.”

Mr Vosarogo said if people were not happy with government decisions, they would need to use the courts.

“There are the courts and you should utilise them because we have a very independent judiciary.”
