The newly-established Marine Biologist Department of South Sea Cruises has been making waves in the area of conservation this year and its recent initiative on South Sea Island included guests and crew coming together to highlight this important message.

Marine Biologist Department manager Amanda Quai Hoi said the program on World Oceans Week was based on the company’s commitment to protecting marine life and ecosystems.

“Our oceans are not just beautiful, they are life-sustaining,” she said.

“This past week, we reminded our visitors and our team that each action, no matter how small, contributes to a healthier reef and a more resilient ocean.”

Ms Hoi said awareness and action were keys to ensuring their message was impactful and effective.

“Protecting the ocean starts with awareness, but it continues through action.

“This past week, we showed that no matter where you’re from, you can be part of a global movement for change.

“The power of education and connection was on full display this week.

“Watching local staff and international visitors come together to learn and act for the ocean was a proud moment for all of us.”

The theme of the event was “Champions of the Sea: A Celebration of Action and Awareness, Where Island Vibes Meet Ocean Education”.

Ms Hoi said the initiative, which included more than 1500 guests being involved in various activities throughout the week, ended on South Sea Island.

“It was a day of learning, laughter, and action on South Sea Island as South Sea Cruises Group hosted World Oceans Week celebrations.

“Marine biologists and local ocean champions teamed up to teach tourists about coral restoration and giant clams, highlighting how small islands can make a big difference in protecting our reefs.

“With support from the Ministry of Fisheries Fiji, the event blended eco-education with island fun.”
