A pair of conjoined twins, born in the weekend at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva are under close observation as the Ministry of Health organises an international expert to assess the babies condition.
Minister for Health Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu confirmed they have contacted the surgeon who would soon travel to Fiji.
Dr Lalabalavu said this was not the first case for Fiji.
“We have had a case before while I was still a doctor at CWM (Hospital) and we managed to separate them,” he said.
Officials said the twins were healthy as doctors closely monitored their condition.
The babies share a pair of legs and are joined in the hips and stomach.
