CONFLICTING weather reports is frustrating villagers in the northern parts of Yasawa and Malolo Group.

Yasawa district spokesman Siona Ratulevu said there was “a lot of news coming through” forecasting the different paths Tropical Cyclone Mona would take.

“First we heard that it was going to hit Vanua Levu then we hear that it’s coming this way too,” he said yesterday afternoon after the northern Yasawa was placed on high alert.

“It’s frustrating because we need the correct information.

“For now, we don’t feel anything. It’s very calm here in Tamusua and I’ve checked in other parts of the district and the feedback is the same.

“They haven’t seen or felt any signs of a cyclone approaching.” However, he added villagers were not taking any chances and preparing for the worst.

“All of the homes have been secured and we will not allow anyone to venture out to sea by this afternoon” A similar report was received from Solevu in Malolo.

Village headman Marika Nasilasila said they were following weather reports closely.

“Everyone is preparing for the cyclone but so far we don’t feel much of the bad weather,” he said.
