Justice David Ashton-Lewis, has delivered a blunt assessment of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s leadership, saying his confidence in the Prime Minister has been “dented” by the government’s failure to act decisively on the recommendations of the FICAC appointment inquiry.
In a strongly worded statement, Justice Ashton-Lewis accused the Prime Minister of breaking a personal promise to implement the full findings of the Commission of Inquiry (COI), which investigated the controversial appointment of Barbara Malimali as FICAC Commissioner.
“My own confidence in Sitiveni Rabuka has been dented by his failure to act decisively,” Ashton-Lewis said.
“Especially if he is putting his traditional obligations to his chief above his obligations to the people of Fiji by adhering to the rule of law.”
