A letter to replace the yellow eTransport card is needed to confirm if students were still enrolled at their same school, says Education Ministry permanent secretary Selina Kuruleca.

Her comment follows concerns raised by numerous parents about why there was a need to obtain a letter from the school to replace the children’s yellow eTransport bus card.

The parents had to pay a replacement fee and top-up on the card for its ongoing use, and some of them have labelled the requirement of getting a letter from the school as unnecessary.

In response, Ms Kuruleca said the free bus fare assistance provided by the Government was for the students if the combined income of their parents was below $16,000.

“They were using the blue card while the yellow card was topped up by their parents,” she said.

Ms Kuruleca said the red eTransport bus card was for adults, which some students used to pay their fares.

However, she said this too was not paid by the Government but topped up by parents.
