Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has urged the public not to draw conclusions or pass judgment on police officers while investigations remain underway into a circulating message linked to the Fiji Police Force.

Speaking during a joint appearance with the Australian Federal Police, the Commissioner said he was concerned about speculation that lacked factual basis.

“I would like to state that I don’t support police officers being judged by public opinion without substantive evidence. What was sent by my men at this point in time is still a vibrant message,” he said.

Tudravu confirmed that a full investigation has been launched and welcomed the assistance of the Australian Federal Police.

“Investigation is underway, and I’m thankful that the Australian Federal Police is there to assist us. We’ll be taking all steps to get all the evidence and get to the root cause of who is sending this message, and we want to get him and find out the real connections that are out there.”

He stressed that ongoing enquiries were focused strictly on identifying the source of the message and any related networks.

“At this point in time, we are working with federal police along the line. It has nothing to do with the summit — it’s one of the investigations we’re pursuing.”

The Commissioner assured the public that the matter is being handled with urgency and due diligence.
