THE Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has reminded travellers to comply with Fiji’s customs declaration requirements after undeclared ammunition was intercepted at the Nadi International Airport recently.

A statement from FRCS said customs officers had intercepted the undeclared goods from a passenger arriving on a flight from Los Angeles.

“Ammunition can be considered a weapon because it is a crucial component of a weapon system and can create an effect on a target,” FRCS said.

“The interception followed targeted risk assessments and specific indicators identified by our frontline officers. The passenger and the baggage were promptly referred to the border police for further investigation.”

“We encourage all travellers to comply with customs declaration requirements and remind the public that strict penalties are enforced for non-compliance.”

FRCS CEO Udit Singh said the successful operation highlighted officers’ dedication to protecting Fiji’s borders and preventing the entry of prohibited or undeclared items.

“We take all border security threats seriously,” he said.

“We will continue to enhance our risk assessment and targeting measures. We urge all passengers to comply with customs regulations, as failing to declare restricted or prohibited items can result in serious consequences.”
