Complaints against police officers dropped by 18 per cent in the first quarter, according to figures released by Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu yesterday.

Police registered 231 complaints during the August to October period compared with 283 for the same period last year.

Most complaints were related to conduct, which accounted for 116 cases. A further 84 cases were for neglect of duty.

“Cases of conduct we linked to ill-discipline, while neglect of duty, were linked to poor service delivery,” he said.

He said internal investigations continued to identify areas that required improvement, and action was being taken where lapses were found.

He added that misconduct files were being monitored by divisional commanders to ensure timely outcomes for complainants.

The commissioner said the force was working to strengthen public trust, and addressing behaviour within the ranks remained a priority.

He noted that the complaints data would continue to be reviewed quarterly, with further updates to be released as part of the organisation’s ongoing reforms.
