SUVA Zone Two athletics competition executive Apete Luva said this year’s competition was driven to provide a friendly atmosphere for all schools to avoid the rivalries of old.
“It is important for schools to form friendships rather than the rivalries of the past and the students have done so over the past few days,” Luva said.
He said prefects from various schools, over the past few days, had met to ensure that comradeship remained positive with no room for tension during the games.
“It is a step forward to ensure student athletes performed to the best of their ability, especially with nothing to sidetrack them such as the off-field antics.
“It was wonderful to see many students from different schools in the embankment and grandstand mingle together in a sport where they are normally segregated.
“We believe the unity formed during the Suva Zone Two competition will send the schools in a better mind space to the national games.”
