There is some relief for the people of Levuka as Goundar Shipping Ltd has confirmed the resumption of service to the island eight days before Christmas.

Goundar Shipping Ltd had stopped servicing the Ovalau route in October, making it hard for Levuka residents.

Goundar Shipping Ltd managing director George Goundar said they were bringing back the Levuka route after the outcry from the public.

“I’m here to provide services and I will listen to my stakeholders from Levuka and provide them the service they need for Christmas,” he said.

Mr Goundar also confirmed that they will be operating through the main Levuka port and will put past differences aside.

“As an old scholar from Levuka, I think it’s about time that we go back and put politics aside from what is happening in Levuka on the jetty issue and ensure that we provide the best customer service,” said Mr Goundar.

There will be two daily trips provided by Goundar Shipping Ltd , and the reporting times are 5am and 1.30pm at the Suva bus stand and 6am and 2pm from Levuka.
