Company expands fleet size

ONE of the region’s most experienced aviation companies has invested substantially to support its operations, fleet and personnel.

Garden City Helicopters, which is owned by Pacific Island Air’s John Currie and sons, recently purchased two helicopters in the past couple of months — a second twin-engine squirrel helicopter and a Robinson 44 (R44). The Currie family also own Vanuatu Helicopters Limited.

Group marketing manager Alison Fleming said the newly-acquired helicopters cost $US1.6million ($F2.94m) each.

She said Garden City Helicopters saw an opportunity to purchase the established Pacific Island Air & Seaplanes operation with existing experienced staff in May last year.

“We have also added helicopters to the company’s fleet, provide tourist transfers to resorts and charter services to any destination in Fiji,” she said yesterday.

“Since Garden City Helicopters took ownership of Pacific Island Seaplanes, the company has been frantically busy upgrading all aspects of the business from engineering and aircraft, through to standard operating procedures and staff uniforms.”
