Community Games promote safety, sports growth

THE inaugural Serua Namosi Community Games 2025 held at Thompson Park in Navua over the weekend marked a successful two days of fun, excitement and sportsmanship.

With a total of 1000 participants taking part in the competition, the event featured four different sports — touch rugby, netball, volleyball and futsal soccer.

Tournament director Sera Yavita expressed satisfaction with the event, stating that all teams enjoyed the competition and the friendly atmosphere.

The main objective of the Community Games was to promote safe and supportive communities through sports and to measure the level of sports development within the Serua-Namosi vicinity.

She adds participants from communities such as Navunisoco to Navutulevu took part in the event, aiming to address social and economic issues, as well as combat drug-related problems and HIV cases within the area.

The event served as a platform to bring together the Namosi and Serua provinces, fostering unity, peace and harmony among the communities.

Organised by the Fiji National Sports Commission and the Serua and Namosi Organising Committee, with the support of the vanua, vunivalu, and the provincial offices, the event was a significant milestone for both provinces.

Special thanks were extended to the Namosi Provincial Office for their continuous support, as well as to the sponsors for their contributions in making the event a success in the town of Navua.

Meanwhile, the results from the competition included Tadevo Community winning the Volleyball Men’s category, with Vunimasi as the runner-up.

Nakavu Village emerged victorious in the Volleyball Women’s division, while Veivatuloa claimed the Touch Rugby Men’s title, with Qilai finishing as the runner-up.

Veivatuloa also secured the Netball Women’s championship, with Navua Urban as the runner-up. The Men’s Mix category saw Lobau Village taking the top spot, followed by Veivatuloa Village as the runner-up. The Futsal category was won by Rio.
