The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has commended the Vanua Vusu and the Church in Namatakula Village for their acceptance of former national 7s rugby player Amenoni Nasilasila, describing it as a powerful example of community support for rehabilitation and reintegration.
Villagers lined the roadside to welcome the FCS delegation led by Assistant Commissioner Operations Alevio Turaga and Officer-in-Charge Minimum ASC Atu Maiono.
A traditional ceremony was held in the village hall, attended by family members, villagers, and representatives from the Ratu Filise rugby union and rugby league teams.
Mr. Turaga said the scenes at Namatakula reflected the kind of compassion and community responsibility needed to help former inmates rebuild their lives.
“These are the encouraging things communities can do when a loved one returns from prison,” he said.
“He has served his sentence, paid for his crime, and is now in good hands with his own people. We wish him well.”
Nasilasila, who was sentenced to eight years with a six-year non-parole period, has now been fully discharged after serving his term.
