Naitasiri Secondary School ended its academic year on a high note with many students being awarded for their academic achievement and the school also having its first cohort of students graduate in the carpentry and joinery Matua program.
The opportunity was a stepping stone to a new lease on life for the young vocational cohorts.
The Education Minister, Aseri Radrodro was the chief guest at the graduation ceremony earlier this month.
In a Government statement, Mr Radrodro not only acknowledged the students’ dedication and perseverance but also the parental support towards the student’s education.
“I am pleased to be present here today not only as your Minister for Education but as a proud kai Waimaro to do the honours in presenting the awards in the school’s annual prize-giving ceremony,” he said.
“Today’s gathering is to celebrate students’ hard work and outstanding commitment to holistic education.
“Your hard work has not gone unnoticed and today, as you receive your well-deserved prizes, know that you’ve earned them through dedication and perseverance.
“This is an annual event that most parents and students look forward to.
“For the 2023 academic year, this is the seventh annual awards that I have attended this week. I observed that parents swell with pride when their children with cheerful smiles march to receive their awards.
“On that note, I would also like to urge parents and guardians that we should continue to encourage children who may not receive an award to continue to strive for excellence.
“For those students who may not be receiving any award today but you have improved in terms of attitude and academic achievements that is still worth celebrating.
Your efforts big or small is crucial as you walk and work towards your goals.”
He also congratulated the vocational students who completed their short vocational course on carpentry and joinery through the Matua program.
“I hope the second chance through vocational education that Naitasiri Secondary School has offered you is the stepping stone to a new lease on life and you will inspire others to make good use of the education opportunities.”
