SIX students of Ratu Ravuama Vunivalu Memorial School were rushed to the Nausori Health Centre yesterday morning after the minibus they were travelling in was allegedly hit by a bus.
The accident happened along Mokani Rd, Nausori, near Bau Central College about 7.15am.
A witness, Elenoa Vueti, 38, of Mokani Village said she was waiting for the bus to go to work when the accident happened.
“The bus travelling towards Bau Landing and it hit the minibus at the back when it was turning towards the village road,” she claimed.
“My cousin and her two kids were waiting by the roadside, they were dragged by the minibus into the drain and my cousin sustained serious injuries.
“Her foot was stuck under the minibus so villagers had to lift the minibus to pull her free.”
Ms Vueti said the villagers living beside the road rushed to the scene to provide assistance to the victims when they heard the sound of the impact.
“They took out the students from the minibus and the vehicles which were travelling towards Mokani rushed all of them to the health centre.”
Josaia Boselawa, 45, of Mokani, who lives close to the accident site, said they were preparing for breakfast when they heard the sound of two vehicles colliding. “When I got there, a lady was stuck in the drain,” he said.
“Her left foot was stuck underneath the minibus so together with some boys from the village, we lifted the minibus and freed her.
“We took the children out of the minibus and the vehicles on the road rushed them to the health centre.”
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said two students were seriously injured while four others were being treated for minor injuries at the Nausori Health Centre.
She said the bus driver was being questioned at the Nausori Police Station and investigations were continuing.
