College celebrates 75-year history

Swami Vivekananda College celebrated its Platinum Jubilee on Monday, marking a momentous occasion in the school’s 75-year history.

Officiating at the event, Assistant Education Minister Iliesa Vanawalu said the event was a time for reflection for everyone in the institution.

“You must continue to steer this ship in the right direction. Give this celebration real meaning by upholding the values and achievements your institution is known for,” he said.

“SVC has been providing quality education service delivery to the young ones in this community and has been instrumental in the development of Malolo, Nadi and its surrounding settlements.

“These incredible 75 years is marked with a profound history and this celebration is a proud and significant occasion to reflect on the amazing accomplishments of this institution, which is proudly recognised as Swami Vivekananda College.”

Mr Vanawalu said SVC began its journey in 1949 as Shri Vivekananda High School with just 19 students.

“It warms my heart to see how far it has come since those early days.

“Today, the college proudly serves over 1000 students, providing them with the education and support they need to thrive.”

Acknowledging the founders of SVC, the Assistant Minister expressed his sincere appreciation for their vision and foresight in establishing the school in 1949.

“Swami Rudrananda, Mr AD Patel, Sadhu Kuppuswami, and the Sangam stalwarts all played a crucial role in setting the path for this institution to achieve greatness.

“The theme for this celebration, Celebrating 75 Years of Youth Empowerment and Nation Building, truly reflects the heart and soul of Swami Vivekananda College.

“I have no doubt that many gifted students have attended the college over the years and have excelled not only in academics, but also made a mark in creative and cultural activities.”
