After two months of gruelling recovery from ankle surgery, Jade Coates is finally back where she belongs – on the rugby pitch.

This Sunday she makes her return for the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua women’s team to face the Reds in opening round of the 2024 Super W championship.

“I’m looking forward to the game this Sunday. I was out for two months with an ankle surgery and having my first game back, I’m super excited and it will be a little bit meaningful for sure,” Coates said.

Despite the challenges she’s faced during her time on the sidelines, Coates radiates positivity. With a hint of anticipation, she reflects on the upcoming match and the opportunity it presents for both herself and her teammates. ”

Looking at the team combination this Sunday is exciting, it just shows the depth of rugby in Fiji.

“Seeing new girls get the opportunity to play is truly inspiring,” Coates added.

Coates acknowledges the hard work put in by every member of the team, emphasising their dedication and determination.

“Everyone in the team has worked really hard and whoever gets the opportunity will put up their best performance and hope for the best,” she declares.

Coates’ message extends beyond the confines of the rugby field. With heartfelt gratitude, she reaches out to the fans, recognising their unwavering support as a driving force behind the team’s success.

“Fans are so important to us, and we must do what we do, if you’re in Australia come on down to Ballymore and watch us play. Be the 16th player on the field.”

Amidst the excitement of the upcoming match, Coates reflects on the new training environment within the Drua setup.

“Not many changes, we still have a job to do, we are grateful and lucky to be here at the Drua base in the West. It’s awesome to see the boys team train in this environment.

“We are so lucky and excited that Drua has taken us on board and trained us.”

Coates will pair Mereoni Nakesa in the locks this Sunday.
