MELBOURNE Storms rugby league team’s most wanted athlete Tui Kamikamica has a good feeling the new Fiji Bati coach Brandon Costin will be driving the national team to new heights next year.

The robust second-rower told his newspaper the idea of mixing local and overseas reps in any international Test will boost the morale of local-based players to continue striving for perfection in the sport.

“I like him in person and what he has been doing with the team, blending local and overseas reps together because we have some really good talented boys here in Fiji,” Kamikamica said.

“To select local players and put them into the Bati squad with NRL based players will really boost their performances and we’ll learn from each other and this transformation will also be an opportunity for other local players to continue training hard and never give up of donning the national jersey or securing an overseas contract.”

After playing seven Storm games in 2016-2017, Kamikamica had a breakthrough 2019 by making 21 NRL appearances, averaging 69.5metres per game in attack and 19.6 tackles in defence, as well as featuring for Fiji in their end-of-season internationals.

Meanwhile, Kamikamica and New Zealand Kiwis and Dally M Second-Rower of the Year finalist Kenny Bromwich, who are coming off career-best seasons in 2019, have signed on with Storm through to the end of the 2022 season.
