Suva Volleyball Association tournament commissioner Jone Balaeilomaloma says the association is happy with the performance of clubs competing in their weekly volleyball competition.

He said the performances of clubs in the competition since week one had improved immensely, showing the increase in the standard of volleyball in Suva.

“This is week four now, and since the competition started, we can see a huge improvement in the performances of participating teams,” he said.

With a total of 11 men’s and women’s team in the competition, Baleilomaloma said the competition among the teams had been increasing over the past few weeks.

“We have also seen an increase in the number of youths and young teenagers taking up volleyball and this is a good sign.

“We believe that being part of a team in a certain sport can be an alternative way of keeping our young people out of trouble, doing worth while things.”

“We have always been encouraging young people to join clubs and be part of the competition that we usually host, and we are happy to see many of them joining.”

He also mentioned the turnout of fans, supporters, and families of respective teams was very encouraging.

“It’s also nice to see a lot of people coming out to support their teams, and this is something which we encourage very much as well.”
