KAUNIKUILA Basketball Club announced its participation in the Vodafone Fiji Cup, which starts tomorrow, with three of its teams vying for top honours.

The club will field two women’s teams, Kaunikuila Aces and Kaunikuila Royals, alongside its men’s team, the Kaunikuila Islanders.

Club founder and president Ben Naisau expressed confidence in the club’s preparations leading into the tournament.

“Preparations have been progressing well, and we know the competition will be extremely strong with quality teams from around the country. However, we are entering this tournament with a clear mission — to compete for both the women’s and men’s titles,” said Naisau.

“Our focus is on maintaining consistency, executing our game plan, and improving with each game. We respect every opponent and know that every match presents a new challenge.”

The teams have been under the guidance of respected national coach Manoa Puamau, whose wealth of experience and technical expertise have been instrumental in shaping the club’s preparations.

“Coach Puamau brings tremendous depth of knowledge, practical insights, and a high-performance mindset that has helped elevate our players and strengthen our team culture,” Naisau added.

With a blend of experienced players, emerging talent, and a strong commitment to excellence, Kaunikuila Basketball Club is eager to showcase its growth and competitiveness on the national stage.

“While we do not want to place undue pressure on any individual player, there are several young athletes who have shown tremendous growth throughout our preparation phase and are ready to step up when called upon.

“The Vodafone Cup provides an excellent platform for these players to showcase their abilities and gain valuable experience at a high level of competition.

“Beyond results, we want our teams to demonstrate discipline, teamwork, resilience and the values that Kaunikuila Basketball Club represents both on and off the court.”

The Vodafone Fiji Cup is expected to attract some of Fiji’s best basketball talent, providing fans with three days of exciting and high-quality competition.

The competition ends on Saturday.
