THE Kaunikuila Basketball Club aims to gain exposer during their upcoming debut international tour at the Olympique de Noumea Basketball Tournament in New Caledonia.
Their participation will see the club sending both men’s and women’s teams to compete against a substantial field of 18-19 teams.
Under the guidance of President Ben Nasau, the club has been diligently preparing for this prestigious tournament over the past few weeks.
With departure scheduled for the 13th of the following month, the players and staff have geared up for the thrilling challenge that lies ahead.
“The preparations have been going well so far, we leave on the 13th of next month, so we pretty much have two weeks left before we leave,” said Nasau.
“For us it’s a big event because, no basketball club from Fiji, has ever gone to New Caledonia to play.”
New Caledonia, the reigning champions, pose a formidable opposition, but the Kaunikuila Basketball Club is eager to test their skills and showcase their talent.
“New Caledonia is the defending champions other the years, it’s a big achievement for us to compete in this competition.”
With the inclusion of national basketball representatives within the team, the club anticipates engaging in fierce competition and striving to raise the bar for themselves and for Fiji’s basketball community as a whole.
Their primary goal is to leverage this opportunity to not only gain exposure and experience but also to foster stronger relationships with other Pacific nations.
Nasau mentioned this would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the parents, players, and sponsors who have generously contributed to making this tour a reality.
The Kaunikuila Basketball Club extends its heartfelt appreciation to all those who have played a crucial role in making this journey possible.
The club will leave for New Caledonia on December 13.
