The Jobs for Nature initiative has been closed, the Ministry of Finance and Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics has announced.
It was started as a Fiji Social Protection COVID-19 Response and System Development Project to assist with tree planting and nature rehabilitation.
It was estimated about 10,000 Fijians would be able to generate income and contribute towards mitigating climate risks through the Jobs for Nature project.
Funding could be sourced under the program to build nurseries and plant seedlings.
The Jobs for Nature program was supported by the World Bank and funded projects that supported job opportunities for small-scale projects to carry out environment-based works within their communities.
The Ministry said the Jobs for Nature is being closed with immediate effect.
“The Ministry has successfully concluded 3 rounds of the Jobs for Nature 2.0 Program, an initiative launched in the aftermath of the COVID-19 Pandemic to support income generation for communities and assist with tree planting and nature rehabilitation,” said PS Shri Gounder in a public notice.
“We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has supported and contributed to this program throughout its duration.”
