The Fiji Golf Club is expecting 100 golfers to turn up to its closing event of the season this weekend.

The Stiff Shafts, Kollective Konsult Niu Grillz and Tents & Awnings-sponsored two person Ambrose event will be the club’s last for the 2023 season.

Alex Konrote, who is the president of the event’s sponsors, said they would be using the event to advocate on human trafficking and modern slavery.

“Human trafficking is a real concern in Fiji but very few people are oblivious to its existence. This is the first time we are aligning ourselves to the cause because of the relationship we share with Homes of Hope.

“That relationship has shaped our vision of using sports, in this case golf, as a tool to create awareness on human trafficking and bring it to the fore. It is a real issue that exists in societies, and we want to be involved in combating this crisis.

“Our struggling economy has taken a big hit from COVID, and this is also coupled by the stress that climate change and rising sea level is having on the everyday person. Sponsors Lupeti and Eliala Fihaki of Kollective Konsult are looking at the correlation between climate change and modern slavery.”

Half of the competition fees will be donated to Home of Hope to highlight and create awareness around child trafficking and modern slavery.

The closing Ambrose of the season will be held at the Vatuwaqa golf course with registration starting at 9.30am and tee-off at 10.30am.
