THE Tailevu South Primary Schools Netball Association three-day zone meet concludes today at the National Netball Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva.

With strong and consistent support from friends and families, Nakelo District School (NHS) is aiming for another successful outing in this year’s competition.

Sixteen schools are competing for supremacy in this three-day event, which also serves as trials for the Tailevu South teams ahead of the national championships, scheduled for week 14 of term 1 in Labasa.

More than 1,300 students are showcasing their skills across seven age groups and a mixed category.

NHS has been a powerhouse in the competition, winning three grades last year and now aiming to top that by winning all categories this time around.

Mary Rose Fisher, the school’s netball association president, highlighted the crucial role that parents and teachers have played in the team’s success.

“Even though I’m new here, I quickly saw how supportive the parents are. The teachers have also given their time to train the girls, and that’s been fantastic,” Fisher revealed in an interview yesterday.

After two days of intense matches, Fisher is pleased with how the girls are performing.

“The results so far are really good. The girls have done well across all grades, and we’re very happy with the progress.”

Apart from dominating the netball courts, the young netters from Nakelo are eager to represent the Tailevu South association at the upcoming national championships.

“They’re 100% keen. All the girls keep asking, ‘Can we represent?’ I’ve told them to do their best as the selectors will be out there monitoring their performances,” she added.

As the competition heads into its final day, NHS is well placed to continue their strong run and possibly sweep the board, making a bold statement in the Tailevu South netball scene.
