AFTER weeks of dispute over the Nasarava catchment, members of the Nabukarabe clan of Nakama, Labasa, are set to receive a payout of more than $1million in the next six weeks.
Under the agreement, the clan will receive a premium of $765,000, compensation of $610,000 and land rental of $35,000.
This, after the clan agreed to the terms set by the Water Authority of Fiji, Department of Lands and the iTaukei Land Trust Board.
In a statement, the clan’s secretary, Kalesi Volatabu, said they expected the funds to be in their bank account by March 10.
“To finalise internal approvals and banking arrangements, the clan has requested in writing all copies or drafts of all lease documentation and legal instruments to be signed within seven days,” she said.
Ms Volatabu said they had also requested a draft copy of the memorandum of understanding covering agreed non-monetary commitments.
“These commitments include three employment placements, renovation of a caretaker’s dwelling, road repairs, arrangements for two four-wheel-drive vehicles, and an income deposit mechanism.”
TLTB chief executive officer Solomoni Nata confirmed that discussions were held with trustees and WAF officials on the water catchment leases.
Mr Nata said they had agreed on a revised offer, and a new offer letter would be handed to the landowners.
