THE Seventh-day Adventist Church has recruited more than 8000 Pathfinders nationwide.

Fiji Mission youth director Senitiki Waqa said Pathfinders engaged with children aged 10 to 15 in activities that develop practical skills, leadership, spiritual knowledge and community awareness.

Mr Waqa says the Pathfinders program is designed not only as a fun annual event but also as a structured way to prepare young people for real-life challenges.

Participants are tested in 10 different events that cover a range of skills and knowledge.

“These events include cultural skills, disaster preparedness, and first response techniques for injuries or emergencies,” he said.

“We also assess their Bible knowledge through oratory, quizzes, and other exercises.

“Outdoor activities like camping, tower building, and constructing camps are important for teaching teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership.”

Mr Waqa said the program is conducted in stages nationwide to allow for maximum participation.

A Pathfinder is a member of SDA worldwide youth network similar to scouts, but with a stronger spiritual and community-oriented focus.

Central Region Pathfinders are currently marching and engaging in activities in Suva, while more than 1000 participants have already been involved in Savusavu.

Events for the islands, including Kadavu, and districts such as Nausori, are scheduled for the coming days.

The largest gatherings will take place in the West, with about 3000 Pathfinders expected in Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka, Yasawa, Rakiraki and Tavua.
