NEW cases of misconduct involving Methodist Church ministers were reviewed and reported to church leaders yesterday, the Church’s general secretary, the Rev Dr Jolami Lasawa, said at a press conference.

He said the outcome of the review would determine whether ministers are suspended or terminated from their posts.

“We have had similar cases in the past, and some church ministers have been sent home, some suspended for a period of time as a result of disciplinary action decided by the church leaders,” he said.

“The church does not tolerate such misbehaviour of ministers, and we have made this very clear. Some cases have ended up in court having been handled by police, and when it is brought to our attention, we suspend or terminate.”

Rev Dr Lasawa said the church had also agreed to review the school programs offered at Davuilevu Theological College to meet today’s needs.

“In today’s (yesterday) meeting and seeing the rising social ills on our streets and in our country, the ministers have agreed to re-look at the programs and make necessary changes to suit today’s needs.

“This is very important as the church works towards helping those affected by social ills.”

Meanwhile, the conference will begin next Monday and will open with a church service at the Vodafone Arena in Suva on Sunday.
