THE Chinese New Year celebrations in Fiji began on a high note with the official opening of the $30million Nausori Town Plaza.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad officiated the event highlighting the importance of Fiji’s relationship with China in making this milestone possible.

In his address, Prof Prasad noted that the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival was a cultural tradition that transcends borders and resonates in Fiji, reflecting the values of community, unity, and togetherness.

“As we welcome the new lunar year, we are reminded that family, togetherness, and shared responsibility are the cornerstones of a prosperous society,” Prof Prasad said.

“These same values are alive in every corner of Fiji and are the foundation upon which we continue to build our nation.”

Prof Prasad described the opening of the Nausori Town Plaza as both a commercial hub and a beacon of opportunity. He said it was now an important symbol of growth, progress and the strong bilateral ties between Fiji and China.

“This $30 million investment, spread over three levels and spanning approximately 15,000 square meters, is a significant milestone for Nausori and a clear demonstration of the importance of strategic development in driving local economic growth.

“With 41 units available, the Nausori Plaza will offer local businesses and entrepreneurs numerous opportunities to thrive and expand. This development aligns perfectly with our national agenda of inclusive growth, which seeks to empower communities, improve livelihoods, and create a more resilient economy for all Fijians. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the developers, Ding Jing Real Estate Development Pte Ltd, the Nausori Town Council, and all those involved in bringing this vision to life.
