Three Chinese nationals charged in relation to an alleged methamphetamine seizure following a series of raids in Suva have been further remanded in custody after their bail review application was dismissed.

Justice Usaia Ratuvili delivered his ruling on Tuesday in the High Court in Suva, finding that there were no sufficient grounds to overturn the decision of the Suva Magistrate’s Court.

Yu Yang Fang, Minghui Dai, and Zhou Lan, who were arrested during a raid on Rewa St last year, had appealed the lower court’s decision to deny them bail.

They are jointly charged with unlawful possession of 39.5 grams of methamphetamine. Ms Lan and Mr Dai also face an additional charge of possession of more than $7000 in local and foreign currency suspected to be proceeds of crime.

All three are further charged with unlawful supply, while Mr Yu faces an additional count of possession of suspected proceeds of crime.

In his ruling, Justice Ratuvili found that the magistrate had carefully considered all relevant material and applied the correct legal principles. The matter has now been referred back to the Magistrate’s Court for further proceedings.
