The Office of the Prime Minister has received two electric vehicles from the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Congress in China.
The handover ceremony underscored the growing partnership between the two nations in combating climate change and promoting sustainable development.
“China produces over 70% of the world’s electric vehicles, reflecting its commitment to sustainable development,” said Assistant Minister, Sakiusa Tubuna.
He also highlighted the environmental benefits of electric vehicles, noting their role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Mr Tubuna also acknowledged Guangzhou’s broader contributions to Fiji’s development, including the redevelopment of Albert Park, the refurbishment of the Civic Auditorium, and upgrades to the athletics track at Marist Brothers High School.
“Guangzhou City has been proactive in addressing climate change through electric vehicle promotion, and we commend this principled commitment.”
Wang Yanshi, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Congress, presented the vehicles.
“These electric vehicles symbolise our commitment to deepening friendship and cooperation, particularly in climate resilience and clean technology,” he said.
