Fiji has secured a major funding boost from China through a new 20 million RMB (FJ$6.2 million) aid protocol aimed at strengthening the nation’s defense capabilities.
The agreement focuses on spare parts and maintenance for Chinese-donated military vehicles and naval vessels—key assets in Fiji’s national security and disaster response framework.
Signed in Beijing by Fiji Military Forces Deputy Commander Commodore Humphrey Tawake, the aid protocol is being hailed as a milestone in Fiji-China defence cooperation.
Commodore Tawake signed on behalf of Fiji’s Minister for Defence and Veterans Affairs during a high-level engagement with Major General Ye of China’s Ministry of National Defence.
“This support arrives at a critical time as we prepare for cyclone season,” a Fiji Military statement said.
“It will help ensure our forces are operational and ready to support communities during natural disasters.”
