Two children at the centre of a social media post alleging abuse and neglect in Lautoka have been placed in safety, Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran has confirmed.
Responding to the widely shared post, Ms Kiran said authorities had been alerted to the situation.
“Thank you for the alert, children have been placed in safety,” Ms Kiran said on social media.
The confirmation follows a post by a concerned resident who claimed the children had repeatedly sought help because of alleged violence and disturbances at the home where they were living.
The resident alleged that shouting, banging and crying could regularly be heard from the property and that one of the children had on several occasions asked for police assistance.
The post further alleged that the older child, believed to be about 12 years old, had not been attending school and had asked the resident to help him and the younger child leave the environment.
According to the resident, police had previously been contacted over the alleged incidents.
The resident later posted a photograph of the two children after claiming they had asked for their situation to be made public in an effort to get assistance.
