For those who live in Suva seeing the State House might not be a big deal, but for children travelling from the outer islands, it is indeed a privilege to see it and even be a guest there.

Children of Nacavanadi in Gau were in awe when they visited the famous State House last week.

The children, who are enjoying their school break, travelled for a few hours by boat to be guests at the State House.

The children, part of the Nacavanadi Sunday School, not only got an opportunity to have a tour of the President’s resident — but also met him and the First Lady, Filomena Katonivere.

The children, who were accompanied by parents and guardians, had a great time as they presented their traditional gifts followed by entertainment from their children.

They got a chance to take pictures with the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere as cherished memories of their notable trip.

Ratu Wiliame, in a Government statement, thanked his guests for travelling such a long distance to visit him at his home.

“To the parents, thank you for looking after and bringing the children safely to the State House,” he said.

To enable students to reach their dream careers, Ratu Wiliame stressed the importance of working hard and studying hard.

He also thanked his guests for choosing to visit the State House to learn about its rich history.

The State House according to the Office of the President was built in the 1920s and has served as the official residence of Governors and Governor-General of Fiji during the colonial era and after independence.
