FORMER Fiji Rugby Union CEO, Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua, also known as Timothy Daniel, is likely to be the next Roko Tui Bau.
This was confirmed by the turaga na Masau, Ratu Kinijoji Toganivalu, after the burial of the Roko Tui Bau, Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi.
Ratu Timoci is the younger brother of Ratu Joni.
Ratu Joni has held the position of the Roko Tui Bau for the past 11 years.
Ratu Kinijoji yesterday confirmed that the yavusa Ratu, who came under the leadership of the Roko Tui Bau, would soon meet to discuss the traditional installation of the next successor.
“The position of the Roko Tui Bau will not be hard to choose because there’s already one second in line. Since the passing of the Roko Tui Bau, the next in line is his younger brother, Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua,” Ratu Kinijoji said.
“He will take up the position, but the yavusa Ratu will first meet because they come under the Roko Tui Bau.
“They will meet with us the Masau clan to discuss when the Roko Tui Bau will be traditionally installed.”
Ratu Joni passed away last week on Thursday at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva after a short illness.
He was laid to rest at the sau tabu on the chiefly island of Bau yesterday in the presence of Tongan King Tupou IV, Nauruan President, Baron Waqa and other senior government officials and diplomats.
