Many blame police officers for abuse and claim that the Police Force is corrupt, says Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.

Speaking at the closing of the four weeks Corporals Qualifying Course yesterday, Mr Fong Chew said they constantly had to defend the organization.

“We are constantly having to defend the organization, in that the actions of one or two are not representative of institutional corruption,” Mr Chew said.

Mr Chew urged the participants of the course to be honest with their work, and only then, they would earn the respect of their comrades.

“You cannot just accept the rank and not the additional responsibilities. It’s just not on, and not fair, and against our sworn oath.

“The training cadre has done its part, it’s now up to you.”

He urged the participants to think about the consequences of breaking the law while serving the members of the public.

“When you jeopardize the investment and trust placed on you not only by the organization but the nation, you risk losing everything and hurting the very people who have been your most loyal supporters since day one of being a police officer, your family.”
