FIJI Chess Federation, in an extraordinary general meeting at the Fiji Club in Suva last night, saw members recommending the suspension of their president Calvin Prasad until January 2019 because of allegations of misconduct, harassment and unruly behaviours.
The meeting was called after some members of the federation called for Prasad’s removal following the alleged incidents.
Last night’s meeting was attended by 19 members of the federation and FASANOC officials as observers.
Allegations against Prasad included unruly behaviour against a grandmaster from Australia during a party, and harassment against a Fijian female player who is a national rep.
“We have exhausted all proper channel in order for our complaints to be heard and addressed in a fair and just manner, but nothing substantial has been done with the harassment cases which we have taken up to executive board and FASANOC,” the female player said.
She claimed that the accussed was drunk when the incident happened.
Minister for Sports Laiseni Tuitubou said and investugation would be conducted.
“The investigation will be carried out by the Fiji National Sports Commission,” he said.
FASANOC president Joseph Rodan had earlier said they had asked the federation to solve the matter inrternally.
FASANOC, in last night’s meeting, said they had met with the accused. He did not attend last night’s meeting.
Meanwhile, Nouzab Fareed has been elected as interim president.
Questions and remainders sent earlier through electronic mail, telephone, text messages to Prasad remained answered.
