Cheating cases recorded

Thirteen cases of people obtaining financial advantage by deception were recorded in the Western Division this month.

Police said individuals were going around collecting money from people promising goods and services which they failed to deliver.

Ten cases were reported in Lautoka, one in Nadi and two in Sigatoka.

Six reports received involved victims who paid between $160 and $600 for groceries which were never delivered.

Two people were arrested and have been produced in court. Three reports involved people paying for tyres but failed to receive the goods.

Another two reports involved victims who paid for taxi permits, one individual paid $2000.

The two reports from Sigatoka involved a person who paid $500 for an iPhone and another who sent $500 to a man who claimed he worked for a delivery company at the airport.

The suspect allegedly informed the victim that he needed $1000 for a parcel to be cleared for collection.

Five people have been charged and produced in court for some of the offences.
